Scholarship duration

For a postgraduate or Master’s degree in Germany:

Between 10 and 24 months, based on the duration of the chosen study program

The scholarship is valid for the duration of the standard study program for the selected Study Program (maximum 24 months). In order to receive further funding for two-year programmes after the first year of study, proof of academic achievements should indicate that the programme can be successfully completed within the standard period of study.

Applicants who are already in the first academic year of a two-year postgraduate or Master’s degree programme in Germany at the time of their application can apply for a scholarship for the second academic year.

For studying in Germany as part of a postgraduate or Master’s degree programme abroad:

An extension is not possible for an academic year.

How to apply for the scholarship

Applications for the German scholarship 2020 must be sent directly to the respective university. Applications (or documents) sent to the DAAD will not be forwarded to the corresponding courses! The complete applications must be submitted in English or German to be considered.

  • Complete CV in Table form (max. 3-pages)
  • A statement on academic and personal reasons for the program you intend studying in Germany (letter of motivation). It should be between 1-3 pages.

Scholarship deadline

German scholarships usually start on 1 October or earlier if the Student takes a language course before completing his studies.
